Double Silver

Thanks everyone for your understanding regarding me not going to that race on the weekend.  I really wasn't sure what kind of reaction I would get and was surprised how understanding everyone has been.  In fact, I've only had one person kind of ride me about it, but I think he was mostly kidding me and he likes to tease me more than anything so it doesn't bother me.  Not that I've regretted it at all.  I am still glad I didn't go.

Monday was a bit of a lazy day.  I still felt some fatigue and figure I must be fighting off the bug that is going around.  After work I had a good long nap on the couch.  It felt great!  My daughter got hit with it pretty good and I'm hoping that with the downtime I can keep fighting it off.  Fingers crossed!

Last night though I decided I needed to get on the wagon again.  It was still downpouring though, so no outdoor run for me.  I went downstairs to the gym, but my daughter was using the treadmill.  Apparently running makes her feel better when she's sick.  She's NOT a runner by any stretch of the imagination, but she does like to run on there when not feeling well.  She has a strange healing plan.  She shuts down completely for about 24 hours.  Does NOT want soup or anything else that most people associate with eating while being sick.  Then, she does something active (usually running on the treadmill).  And BAM, she's better.  I don't get it, and she is a bit of a strange duck, but it works!

So, while I didn't run, I did do something I haven't done for a while ... WEIGHTS!  Not a long session.  It was getting a little late and I wanted an early night.  Plus, I haven't done weights in SO long that I knew I'd have to keep it on the light side or I'd be paying DEARLY and then have to take a few days off.

Sure enough, this morning I can feel it in my pecs and my arse!  Good thing I didn't do more.  So far this is survivable, hopefully it doesn't get worse throughout the day.  The sun is actually out at the moment and I'm dying to get out on the road for a run.

A little exciting news for us over the last two weekends.  Soccer season is winding up for the kiddos.  Actually, not just the season .. this could be it for soccer in our family.  My daughter will not be playing at all again.  She played once when she was little, then decided to try it again this year ... it's not for her.  In her own words, she's "not good with balls".  Good statement to hear out of your fifteen year old - hahaha.

My son has decided that he won't be playing club soccer next year ... which is the last year of youth.  Honestly this makes me sad because I absolutely LOVE to watch him play.  He's pretty good and he plays with such drive.  It's alot of fun to watch.  He's played for over 10 years and it's been a big part of our lives.  But, he wants to do other stuff and has grown bored with the sport.  He may play school soccer next year as it's a short season, but not club.  His team had a season wind-up party the other night and I got kind of choked up leaving.  I've managed the team for most of the years he's played.  Going to miss them all - great group of kids.  One of his coaches joked that while my son may not be back next year, I will.  HAHA, yeah not quite. ;)  I never played soccer growing up, but I fell in love with the sport after being involved as a parent.  One of the BEST sports for all around fitness.

Both kids teams made it to the district finals this year ... and both won silver medals!  Neither team was expected to make it that far and they did well.  My daughter's team was tied at NIl until about 10 minutes left in the game when they gave up 2 goals and lost.  My son's team was leading and dominating the final game at the start, but a devastating line-up change cost them the game and they weren't able to recover.  Oh well, just as well, if they'd won they would have had to move on to the next level which would have meant another month or two and he wanted to be done.

Here's their team pics with their medals:

Bonus points if you can figure out which kids are mine - hahhaa.  (Family not included!)

I've made plans this weekend to run with a friend of mine I haven't seen in some time.  I've decided it's time to get back to having fun with my running, and to have more balanced workouts.  Right now I'm not interested in training for a specific run.  I just want to have fun and enjoy myself ... oh, and look smokin' hot too. ;)

Keep Active!

I'm going to guess front row, first on left, as your daughter, and fourth from left as your son. I really have no idea, however. :)

I dread when my son quits the sports I love, too. He's only 9, though, so hopefully it will be awhile. Doo for you for managing the team! My husband coaches and wants me to manage and I say no way. Let someone else do it.

I'm changing my answer.
Daughter-back row, 5th from right
Son-1st on left

Congrats to your kids and their silver medals! That's awesome.

Glad no one gave you too hard of a time about the race. It's your life and your decisions. We're here to support and encourage - and give a swift kick when you need it. that wasn't the case with that run, in my opinion. You made the right decision!!

I got your comment in my blog last night before I was about to hop into bed....great to hear that I gave you a little inspiration to pick up those weights as you inspire me to run !!! So hey, we need each other ~ :)

I'm loving weights...the pain in my arms after weights and a boxing class..heavens...never knew I had muscles in some places...but inspires me to carry on as already I can see nice changes happening to my shoulders and arms...thats a difficult area for me to tone, my flabby arms...So have a goal now.

So sorry to hear about your son not playing Soccer as I know how much you enjoy it that he does....

Clever daughter you have to have figured out what is happening to her when sick!

I think this should what we all should aim for, especially when it comes to running. When the fun is gone, the motivation often leaves too. I'm all for your approach!

Sorry for you the kids stop playing soccer. Soccer is the number 1 sport in Holland and you see this happen here a lot too with kids. Fantastic result for both your son and your daughter by winning Silver! Congrats to both of them.

After I made my decision to go back to weight training I actually can't wait to start :)

I'm absolutely not disappointed in you sweety for not doing that half. It takes courage to step back when you feel you're not ready.

I'm proud of you and happy to have such a good blogger friend.

What a smart daughter you have! I've heard going out for a run helps your body to gather its strength to fight off any bugs.
