However, after the wedding, we had a long, boring 4 hour drive to our friends house. After a couple of long days and late nights we were all exhausted. Halfway through the drive my husband started asking what there was to eat. Well, I .... being the good healthy-living person I am ... did not pack ANY cookies or such and relatively little in the way of junky snack foods. My husband needed a fix like a drug addict.
So we whipped into the next Walmart (in the
- chocolate covered almonds
- chocolate covered raisins
- Oreo
- Chips Ahoy
- chocolate covered butter cookies
- 8 pack of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups
- 2 boxes chocolate covered caramel granola bars
- dried cranberries
- dried pineapple (injected with a ton of sugar)
- 4 boxes of juice
To my credit about the only thing I ate out of that was pretty much the whole bag of chocolate covered almonds, 1 Reese cup, and a few of the dried pineapples ... but still, too much. I told my husband that we seriously need to make some changes.
On our long drive home, while feeling VERY toxic, I decided I needed to make some changes. Something I've thought about before, dabbled in, but never really fully embraced.

Holy camoly - that is a lot of sugar. Is it bad that after reading it I really wish I'd been on that car ride ;o) I love me some sugar!! Can't wait to here the plan!
That's alot of sweets, I know I don't allow them in my house otherwise it would be the same story as yours. The boys get treats outside the house and that's where they stay ;-)
Oh I know that toxic feeling well. It's pure physiological cause and effect. I notice it immediately if I've been eating well and then detour into craptastic land. Tummy, digestive system, energy level and mood take a turn for the worse. It's just not worth it, is it?
But you're exercising through it all and that's great! Wish I could say the same...... I need a kick in the ass (hint, hint) :)
I'm loving chocolate since January this year..the dark version, now have more chocolate as birthday gifts...ahhhhhhh will have to stay in control and watch how many I eat a day.
I agree it can be tough on road trips to eat as good as you like. I wouldn't be so hard on yourself's as you guys were on vacation and all. But i'm curious to hear what changes are being made. And if anything, it may prompt you guys to plan ahead for the sugar rush - so you have more healthier sweet snacks for the car ride if needed. If I know I tend to crave sweets like on vacation I will buy a bag of licorice or something that I can have on me to settle the sweet tooth. That way I'm not tempted to stop at a gas station and load up. I am still so proud of you for all your fitness you have done this past mont! You are inspiring me!!
I can eat a half box of see's chocolate without blinking an eye if I'm not thinking about it. The key for me is just not buying candy. And not going into a store hungry (or I will buy candy). If candy is in front of me, I WILL eat it!
Yum, sounds like a good road trip to me! ha ha.
I have a wicked sweet tooth and manage to do okay often but I do like junk food! Riding in the car def. lends itself to junk.
I, unfortunately have the sweet tooth from hell! And those long, boring car rides sometimes can set you up for disaster! I think you did pretty well, all in all!
I am horrible with sweets which is why they aren't allowed in the house. It is hard around holidays when people send BW boxes with gifts and candy. I think you did well for only eating what you did with that long list of items. Way to go!
That sure is a lot of sugar  but I can totally feel with you. I've had too much sugar last week too and by the end of the week I felt like crap. So next week lots of fruits and veggies because I ate way to little of that.
I love it how you still keep on exercising all these days of June!
I'm back, check out my blog for my vacation recap. Did miss you and am glad to be back and catch up with you on a daily basis.
