Unattainable Goal???

I'm starting to think my April goal of running 20 times and 100 miles may be unattainable this month due to my slow start.

I've been racking up the mileage like crazy lately and by all means should reach my goal.  Except for one little thing ..... injury.
This is the same injury I suffered from a couple months ago and I'm certain it has to do with my sudden increase in mileage.  Plus I've been guilty a few times lately of minimal (and sometimes no) stretching after my runs.  Not a smart idea!  I had hoped that this wouldn't happen, but I'm going to be proactive this time and not let it get worse.  A little rest, lots of stretching and hopefully I'll be back to new in no time.

What I'm actually hoping for is to still be able to complete the mileage goal, but maybe not the # of runs I had hoped for.  That, probably more than anything, is what is causing this issue.  I can't expect to pound these legs every day and have them perform the way I want.

But, I'm not going to let my fitness be pushed aside.  I'm not working this hard and then letting it go.  Nope, not me!  Last night the fuel light came on in my car.  I really didn't feel like stopping at the gas station.  So .... today I'm a cyclist!

It is a perfect day for it.  Sunny, but not too hot.  And it's the perfect break for my owie.

Here's my sweaty pic after completing Jen's challenge.  I look like I have some kind of branding stamp on my forehead, ala Star Trek!

Have a great day and stay healthy!

hope your better soon!

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear you've got an injury. I hope it gets better soon, in the meantime don't overdo it.

Sorry to hear about the injury. I'm glad you're being smart and giving your body some rest, at least from running. Hope you're back at it SOON!

Those dreaded injuries are our bodies ways of telling us to slow down..and boy, we never listen to it until our body forces us down!!
So take care of yourself...I know how important your fitness is to you, like all of us we all hate injuries and pray they dont come our way..I NEVER STRETCH AFTERWARDS...I know, I know...

Good job listening to your body and making the necessary adjustments. B/c while meeting goals is nice, the goal is subjective and you want to be able to run for a lifetime! Take good care of you & feel better soon!

I barely ever stretch when running on the tm and then I forget I need to when I run outside. I always think of my walk before and after as the stretch but I know that's not good enough. I'll remember you and you owie as I stretch tonight!

Bummer about the injury - but sounds like a smart decision to listen to your body over meeting a goal. It'll pay off in the long run!!

Sorry to hear about your injury. I think taking a few rest days and lots of stretching will help. I love your determination though. It's hard to want to give everythign we have to reach our goals, but I think our goals are there to motivate us. I look at it like a PR, something I want to accomplish everytime in a race, but by the end of the race I am just glad for the journey. :) Sending get well vibes!

I've been neglecting my stretching lately, too, and increasing my mileage (after a long stretch of minimal running)...and now dealing with shin pain (that's starting to feel more like fractures than splints). Stretching is SO important for me...and sounds like for you, too. Good luck for a very quick recovery!

As others have said, listen to your body. A short break is much better than a long one!

Take care of yourself - better to miss your goal by a little bit this month than to lose mileage for several months.
