Sweaty & Satisfied

Two workouts in one day!  Go me!!

For a long time I have been a big fan of evening workouts.  And I still stand by that an evening workout gives me the best sleep possible.  But twice this week I have ran in the morning, and then did some sort of activity in the evening.  Morning workouts are great because you have two options: 1) Your workout is done for the day and if you choose not to do more in the evening or have other things to do then you're already done, or 2) By the time evening rolls around you don't really feel like you've already had a workout and still have enough energy to have a good workout if you want.

Last night I got all sweaty & satisfied ...

... doing strength/cardio intervals.  It rocked!

It was short & sweet, but hit the spot.
  • Dumbbell Squats with shoulder presses
  • Wall sit with bicep curls
  • Wall sit with lateral raises
  • Walking lunges with dumbells
  • Tricep Kickbacks
  • Dumbbell side bends
  • Push-ups
  • Sit-ups

Each move was performed for 2 sets x 15-20 each and about a 30-60 second cardio interval (jumping jacks, high knees, boxing, butt kicks, ...) between each set.

I'd much rather be doing this type of workout in a class setting.  On one hand it's nice to create your own workouts because you can determine the intensity (often I find classes lacking) ... but on the other hand it's nice to just let someone else do the thinking and pushing for you.

In a perfect world would you rather take group classes and/or have a personal trainer ... or do you prefer to beat to your own drum?

I agree, once u have trained in the morning you can decided if you are up to another session at night and if not then you have trained.
I'm training 2x today...this morning with my PT client and now off to teach my class...have too's these workouts.

I taught classes for 27 years so bored with that...I PT so hate someone else telling me what to do ~ I want to be in control...so that tells you my answer hey....;)

I prefer to do my own thing, but sometimes with the help of things like the DVD's.. I have always been a evening workout kind of person, you just do what works!

Great work Heidi!

I agree that morning sessions are great. I love getting those endorphins going right away!

In a perfect world I would always do group sessions. Mix spin classes with circuit training in teams of three where you are rotating with other folks.

I would much, much, much rather have a trainer and do group classes. I like not having to think about what I have to do!!

We are starting to love our am workouts. I think it is great especially for busy moms. I love it becasue I am done my workout before the kids are even congnisent!! HA HA! That Cardio/Strength program looks intense!! I just got my new Oxygen Mag and once I am back in shape I want to try a couple of the programs in there! Do you read Oxygen? I think its great though I wonder why there are so many fat burner ads? It seems counter intuitive to me for a health mag to advertise burners....anyway topic for another day. Good job & thanks for inspiring me! Maybe tonight I will do a strenght video or routine.

I prefer to have a group or personal trainer. I find that I loose my concentration to quickly and don't complete workouts, it I don't have someone to encourage me on!! Great job with the double workouts!!!

I'm stealing that one little workout you posted, if that's ok!? ;) Good for you for getting in TWO workouts in one day! I love doing that and feel so accomplished on days I can exercise twice!

I still feel pretty stupid in group classes (I'm working on that!) what I'd love is to afford a personal trainer. I am thinking about it as to me, it's the best of both worlds as I can be comfortable on my own but being pushed by someone else!

A personal trainer to push me and tell me if I am doing things correctly.

Great workout Heidi. It depends on the class. I did Pilates at home but in a class the teacher corrects my form which is needed. I have done Bodypump in the past en loved it, it's a full body workout with weights and you can use them as heavy as you like. But I prefer most to workout alone. I recently bought this book: 101 workouts for woman and it's got 101 different workouts for strenght so I can choose a different one each time.

I run in the morning...for the reasons you listed. Plus, it keeps me from feeling like I could fall asleep at a moment's notice in the afternoon. Plus, "other things" always come up in the evenings. Working out in the am is MUCH easier to keep regular. But...I REALLY need to start getting that second workout in! :-)

I prefer classes when it comes to having someone else do the thinking, and having someone else push me. By the time I'm done at work, I'm mentally exhausted. But....finding the class I want at the right time is difficult. I'd LOVE to have a personal trainer come to my house. Once I win the lottery, it will be one of the first things I do! (giggle)
